The description covers the developmentfrom conceptualization and character creation to technicalcomponents and the application in clinical research andtraining. The aim is to create believable social interactionswith virtual agents that help the clinician to develop skillsin symptom and ability assessment, diagnosis, interviewtechniques and interpersonal communication. The virtualpatient fulfills the requirements of a standardized patientproducing consistent, reliable and valid interactions inportraying symptoms and behaviour related to a specificclinical condition.
