However it is also known frompsychophysics studies that auditory-visual interactionobey to complex rules and that multisensory conflictsmay disrupt the adhesion of the participant to thepresented virtual scene. It is thus important to measure theaccuracy of the auditory spatial cues reproduced by theauditory display and their consistency with the spatialvisual cues. This study evaluates auditory localizationperformances under various unimodal and auditory-visualbimodal conditions in a virtual reality (VR) setup using astereoscopic display and binaural reproduction overheadphones in static conditions. The auditory localizationperformances observed in the present study are in linewith those reported in real conditions, suggesting that VRgives rise to consistent auditory and visual spatialcues. These results validate the use of VR for futurepsychophysics experiments with auditory and visualstimuli. They also emphasize the importance of aspatially accurate auditory and visual rendering for VRsetups. ER
