Methods of electronic publication offer great benefit to readers, authors and distributors of scientific articles. An article published through the internet may be enriched by additional material like videos, audio files, animated graphics and even applications, but electronic publishing also enables the connection to services related to the article. The use of a specialised software solution for the review system and a professional content management system for publication provide the reliable basis for a continuously growing high-quality scientific communication platform. All articles are stored in an independent and open file format (a docbook compliant xml-variant) and the DiPP-Licence ensures that full text versions of all published manuscripts are available. Every article can be clearly identified by a Uniform Resource Name urn, that is worldwide unique and valid.
