12/13/04 - Inaugural Issue published on December 13, 2004 at the launch of the DiPP information portalScientific research results have hitherto appeared mainly in printed journals and have therefore been published only with a considerable time lag. The state of NRW has now decided to go a new, digital way that will allow for much faster publication: For eight e-journals of the “Digital Peer Publishing NRW” initiative (DiPP NRW) and their editorial staff the Ministry of Science and Research provided financial support in the amount of EUR 600.000. The Duesseldorf University of Applied Sciences contributes to the DiPP NRW project the “Journal of Virtual Reality and Broadcasting” (JVRB), which published its inaugural issue at the same time of the launch of the information portal www.dipp.nrw.de, which itself was introduced to the public and to representatives of the ministry on December 13, 2004. The document „Arthur: A Collaborative Augmented Environment for Architectural Design and Urban Planning“ marks the beginning of a continuous publication of quality-controlled research articles. |

09/30/04 Dipp project featured at Heise.deHeise (German publisher of information, media and computer technology magazines) issues an article on the Dipp project. The article explicitly refers to the idea of open access, the Berlin Declaration, and the innovative Digital Peer Publishing licence. What is highlighted in the article is the fact that currently access to scientific research results is extremely limited, a situation which does not contribute to the promoting of scholarly research. Scientific open access journals on the other hand are said to be greatly supportive for a free knowledge exchange and for making research more transparent.
